Policosanol shown to be no more effective than Placebo

A report published in JAMA states that the cholesterol reducing product Policosanol is no more effective than a placebo. Policosanol is made from a sugar cane extract…which begs the question, "isn't the placebo also made from a sugar cane extract?" While this finding is contrary to a number of other studies which show Policosanol to be effective in reducing Cholesterol, a study published in JAMA tends to get more press so don't expect reporters to "peek behind the curtain" before writing stories on this.
